About This Course

This course is designed for psychologists and mental health clinicians seeking to deepen their understanding of hoarding in both its physical and digital forms. Hoarding disorder is a complex and often misunderstood condition that can significantly impair functioning and quality of life. This course will examine the psychological and behavioral mechanisms underlying hoarding, including emotional attachment, difficulty discarding, and impaired decision-making.

In addition to exploring evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the training will introduce integrative approaches that emphasize motivation, emotional regulation, and harm reduction. This approach offers a more compassionate and individualized path to treatment, particularly for clients with long-standing or treatment-resistant hoarding behaviors.

Case discussions and up-to-date research will be incorporated throughout to provide practical insights and actionable strategies to implement in clinical practice.

This is a live, interactive webinar event that will take place on October 10, 2025 at 10am EST.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the core psychological, emotional, and cognitive factors contributing to both physical and digital hoarding behaviors.

  • Identify the psychological and behavioral mechanisms underlying physical and digital hoarding, including emotional attachment and impaired decision-making.

  • Desribe principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assess and integrate additional therapeutic approaches focused on motivation, emotional regulation, and harm reduction into treatment plans for individuals with complex or resistant hoarding behaviors.

  • Discuss case examples and current research to inform evidence-based clinical decision-making and treatment planning for clients who experience possession and or digital hoarding.
