About This Course

The current workshop is intended to provide mental and behavioral health professionals with an introduction to Functional Tic-Like Behaviors (FTLB’s) within the broader context of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Professional awareness and understanding of these phenomena appears to be generally low, likely owing to the historical rarity of the disorder. However, a significant increase in both FND and FTLB’s was observed during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has persisted in the present and is producing significant distress for those with the condition. Invalidation of the experience and distress is frequently reported by patients; an experience which often exacerbates the condition. The present workshop is intended to aid this by increasing the prevalence of professional knowledge and better equipping professionals to aid patients who present with FTLB’s.

This is a live, interactive webinar event that will take place on May 23, 2025 at 10am EST.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the differences between functional tic-like behaviors and conventional tics.

  • Discuss the prognosis of FTLB’s and FND.

  • Explain to patients, parents, and professionals the importance of validation of the patient experience in treatment of FTLB’s.
