About This Course

This course introduces mindfulness practices specifically adapted for individuals managing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), including skin picking, hair pulling, nail biting, and related conditions. Co-led by Dr. Laura Chackes, licensed psychologist and BFRB treatment expert at the Center for Mindfulness & CBT, and Lauren McKeaney, founder and CEO of The Picking Me Foundation and lived experience expert, this training offers a unique blend of clinical knowledge and firsthand insight. Participants will practice present-moment awareness, explore sensory input and urge awareness, learn effective logging strategies, and discover how to build support systems, including the transformative role of peer support groups in BFRB recovery.

This is a live, interactive webinar course that will take place on June 12, 2026 at 10am EST. It will be recorded for subsequent posting as a self-paced, on-demand course.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how mindfulness interrupts automatic BFRB behaviors by cultivating present-moment awareness without judgment.

  • Discuss urge awareness techniques, including acknowledging, re-routing, or sitting with urges, paired with self-compassion strategies applicable to anyone with a BFRB.

  • Describe logging and tracking methods to better understand BFRB triggers, unmet needs, and treatment progress.
