About This Course

Learn to confidently recognize and respond to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in real clinical settings. This engaging presentation uses interactive case discussions to help clinicians translate IPV awareness into practical, effective action. Attendees will explore how to identify warning signs, navigate complex therapeutic dynamics, and apply informed interventions across diverse treatment contexts.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define and recognize intimate partner violence (IPV).
  • Identify at least one assessment tool or strategy for use to evaluate IPV. 
  • identify at least one resource to provide to patients who may be experiencing or using intimate partner violence.

Theresa Schmitz, Ph.D.

Director of Couple and Family Therapy

Dr. Theresa Schmitz is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and currently serves as the Director of Couple and Family Services at the Center for Emotional Health of Greater Philadelphia. She has over a decade of leadership in mental health, with a career focus on evidence-based interventions and program development in the areas of family services, trauma, and resilience. Dr. Schmitz engages in numerous professional activities aligned with her professional passions, including co-leading a national mentorship group for psychologists leaders, co-Chairing APA’s Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, and providing consultation.
